The Centre on Philanthropy's fourth biennial Third Sector Conference is entitled "Together We Can". This title reminded us of what can be accomplished through collective effort and belief.

Attendees of the conference we treated to two days of education and inspiration featuring 14 international speakers, 4 local speakers, 2 local forums and a special presentation of World Cafe by the Performing Arts Centre Project.

Youth Philanthropist of the Year

The Conference also included the presentation of the Youth Philanthropist of the Year Award (YPYA). Four finalists were selected and recognised at the Conference Reception on the Friday evening. YPYA recognises young people under the age of 19 who have recognised a social issue in the community and created a programme or initiatives that addresses that issue.

The winner received a $2500 educational award.

The Finalists for the Award were:

  • Winner: Malaikah Abdul-Jabbar, 10, for her published books addressing gun violence in Bermuda
  • Anugraha Chandrasekaran and Rachel Soares, 16, for the formation of a Saturday playgroup for children with Autism
  • Courtney Clay, 17, for her work the the Amnesty International Youth Club at Warwick Academy
